Therapy for Children & Adolescents
Carole utilises a family systems approach to her therapy with young children. This involves first gaining an understanding of the parental concerns motivating the decision to pursue therapy, then developing a holistic understanding of the child’s environment including the family roles and dynamics that may influence the child and the presenting issues. This may involve undertaking an initial parent session without the child to gather relevant history and information.
Carole will continue her assessment into the second session with the child, developing an understanding of concerns, strengths, challenges, difficulties, and roles assumed in the family, and apply this knowledge to developing a treatment plan which encompasses an understanding of the different areas of influence in the child’s life.
Carole has trained in expressive therapies for children and combines this technique with other clinical psychological tools including cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy, gestalt therapy, behavioural therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, self-instructional training, and relaxation skills training to assist skilful emotional expression, increased self-awareness, and managing challenges.
Having worked in schools, and specialising in working with children and young people in private practice for many years, Carole understands many of the issues that can arise for this age group.
